All downloads on Staging are free. However, every download costs us money in storage and traffic. With close to a hundred terabytes of traffic every month and growing, Staging needs your help. If all our users each gave us $10 for a single month, we could keep the site running for several years.

Calculate it on your download and compare it to the value for the server you downloaded from — if they match, the copy arrived intact. What is this?Calculate the checksum again on your copy of a file and you should get the same value; a different value means the copy is not identical to what we have. Each download server is listed separately, labelled with the algorithm used — SHA-256, or MD5 for files we have not re-hashed yet. Compare against the server you actually downloaded from: a match means the download arrived intact, a mismatch means it was corrupted on the way and is worth downloading again. This checks for corruption in storage or transfer. It tells you your copy matches ours — it is not a statement about whether the file itself is safe to open. MD5 is also weak against a file deliberately built to collide with another, which is why we are moving to SHA-256.
